Phone Repair Guide — FixSmarts, Modi'in

Last updated: 2026-07-09

Straight answers to the most common phone-repair questions, from the FixSmarts lab in Modi'in.

Is it worth repairing my phone or replacing it?

Repairing is usually the better choice when your phone has a single clear fault — like a cracked screen or a worn battery — and otherwise works well. Replacing makes more sense when several major parts fail at once, or the model no longer receives security updates. At FixSmarts in Modi'in we run a free diagnostic first and tell you honestly which option makes sense for your device.

Is it just the glass or the whole screen that needs replacing?

On phones, the screen is replaced as a complete unit — the glass and the display come together as one part, so we replace the whole screen rather than the glass alone. On iPads and tablets it depends on the fault: sometimes only the outer glass (touch) layer needs replacing, and sometimes the display itself. At FixSmarts we check exactly what's affected during a free diagnostic and tell you which repair your device needs.

My battery drains fast or my phone dies early — do I need a new battery?

If your phone drains unusually fast, dies well before 0%, or gets hot, the battery may be worn. On iPhone you can check this yourself under Settings › Battery › Battery Health — below about 80% capacity it's usually worth replacing. Samsung phones don't have a built-in battery-health readout, so there it's judged by how the phone behaves. Either way, bring it to FixSmarts and we'll help you figure out whether the battery needs replacing.

My phone got wet — what should I do right now?

The most important thing is to bring it to us as soon as possible — the sooner we treat the corrosion, the better the chance of saving the phone. Don't put it in rice, and try not to handle or switch the phone on more than necessary. At FixSmarts in Modi'in we'll clean the corrosion as quickly as possible.

My screen is black but the phone still rings or vibrates — is it broken for good?

Usually not. If your phone still rings, vibrates, or makes sounds but the screen stays black, the problem is often the display or its connector rather than the whole phone — which is typically repairable. Bring it to FixSmarts in Modi'in for a free diagnostic and we'll confirm whether it's the screen, a connector, or something deeper.

My phone won't charge — is the charging port broken?

Not always. A phone that won't charge is very often caused by lint or debris packed into the charging port, which simple cleaning can fix — no new part needed. If the port itself is damaged, it can be replaced. At FixSmarts we check the port during a free diagnostic before recommending a repair, so you don't pay for a part you don't need.

My screen is cracked but still works — should I fix it now or wait?

It's better to repair a cracked screen sooner. Even when touch still works, cracks let in dust and moisture, can spread across the display, and often worsen after another small knock. A cracked screen can also lower your phone's resale value. FixSmarts replaces most iPhone and Samsung screens on the spot in Modi'in, usually within an hour.

Do you offer a warranty on repairs?

Yes. FixSmarts provides a warranty on repairs: 6 months on battery, charging port, power and volume buttons, earpiece, and speaker replacements, and 3 months on screen, camera, and motherboard repairs. The warranty covers the replaced part and our workmanship — it does not apply if the part is later physically broken or exposed to liquid after the repair.

Is there a charge for a diagnostic?

No — the diagnostic at FixSmarts is free. Bring your device to our lab in Modi'in and a technician will check what's wrong and explain your options and the cost before any work begins. You decide whether to go ahead, with no obligation and nothing to pay for the check itself.

Will I lose my data during a repair?

We always recommend backing up your device before any repair. In standard repairs such as screen, battery, charging port, or speaker replacement, your data stays on the device and is not affected. Some repairs — for example a phone that won't power on, or motherboard and water-damage work — can carry a risk to data, and whenever there is any such risk we tell you before we start so you can back up first.

Are the parts genuine, and will they affect my phone?

Yes. FixSmarts uses genuine Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Google Pixel parts, and we tell you exactly what's going into your device before we start. Genuine parts matter: non-original screens and batteries can break features like Face ID or True Tone, trigger battery warnings, or affect calibration. Using genuine parts keeps your phone working the way it should.

Which phone brands and devices do you repair?

FixSmarts repairs most iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models, along with iPads, tablets, Apple Watch, and many other devices. We also fix game consoles and controllers depending on the fault. Some older models are no longer serviceable because parts are no longer available — the fastest way to know for sure is to send us your exact model and we'll confirm.

Can you repair a phone another shop couldn't fix, or one that's already been opened?

Often yes. FixSmarts regularly handles second-opinion repairs and devices that have already been opened elsewhere. Because previous work can affect what's possible, we start with a free diagnostic to assess the device's real condition before recommending anything. Send us the model and a short description and we'll tell you if we can help.
